10 Years Cold - The Murder of Sydney Land and Nehmiah Kauffman
In October 2016, two young people with their whole lives ahead of them were killed inside their Las Vegas apartment. Nearly ten years later, the murders of Sydney Land and Nehemiah “Neo” Kauffman remain unsolved.
This case has never faded quietly into the background. Over the years, it has been surrounded by rumors, speculation, and competing theories—many of which have taken attention away from what matters most: who Sydney and Neo were, and the fact that the people responsible for their deaths have never been held accountable.
In this episode, we take the time to carefully walk through what is known, what has been alleged, and what remains unanswered. We also center the people who are too often lost in the noise—the victims themselves and the families who have spent years searching for justice.
Sydney was 21 years old. Born and raised in Las Vegas, she was deeply close to her family and especially protective of her younger siblings. She worked on the Strip, loved children, and had dreams of a future helping others in a medical career. Those who knew her describe her as gentle, thoughtful, and quietly strong.
Neo had just turned 20. A standout athlete in high school, he was known for his drive, humor, and loyalty to the people he loved. Friends describe someone who brought energy into every room and always showed up for those around him.
The two had only recently started their relationship and had been living together for a short time when they were killed. Investigators believe the murders occurred the night before they were discovered. There were no signs of forced entry, no reports of gunshots, and no immediate answers.
As the years passed, the investigation became increasingly complicated. Multiple persons of interest were discussed publicly. Allegations involving trafficking, intimidation, and corruption circulated widely. At the same time, key investigative decisions—and missed opportunities—raised serious questions about whether justice would ever be possible.
Sydney’s parents, Connie and Steve, refused to let their daughter’s case be forgotten. They spent years advocating publicly, funding billboards across Las Vegas, and urging anyone with information to come forward. Tragically, Connie died in 2022 without ever seeing accountability for her daughter’s death.
Today, Steve continues to hope that someone will finally speak up.
In this episode, we do our best to separate fact from speculation, to avoid adding to harmful rumors, and to tell this story in a way that honors Sydney and Neo as people—not theories.
Someone knows what happened. And until that truth comes out, this case deserves to remain in the public eye.
